Right in the center of Khiva is its main attraction - the almost completely preserved Old City of Ichan-Kala, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The territory of Ichan-Kala, less than 1 square kilometer in area, contains many unique architectural monuments from different eras. In the inner city, behind powerful fortress walls with four gates, are located: the once autonomous fortress of the 17th century Kunya Ark - the former khan\s residence, and the palace complex Tash-Khauli of the 19th century, consisting of a labyrinth of galleries, magnificent mausoleums crowned with huge domes and richly decorated with majolica. In Ichan-Kala there are also beautiful madrassas from the late 18th-20th centuries, the unfinished 29-meter minaret of Kalta-Minor is completely covered with amazingly beautiful multi-colored glazed tiles and majolica, and the 57-meter minaret of Islam-Khoja with an observation deck is the tallest structure in Khiva. Other monuments of the city include the Friday mosque, the majestic eastern gates of Palvan-Darvaza, as well as the Outer City of Dishan-Kala with 10 historical gates and the luxurious palace of Nurullah-bay from the beginning of the 20th century.
